10/08 This club brings a new meaning to "Corn fed Iowa Girls". The club was clean, but the girl that gave me a private dance, definitely needed a shower and she may have been pregnant. If she wasn't, then she had a hell of a beer gut. It was a unique experience.
08/01/08 Update. The Chicago Tribune reports that Judge rules Iowa law protects nude dancing club. The same article also reports that the former owner, Terry Rutledge, has purchased the club. - WOM
No word if the state will appeal.
07/08 Been seeing a lot about Shotgun Genie'z in the news lately. From what I gather, nude dancing is only allowed in Iowa for art, theatrical performances, etc. but not in "clubs". Ergo, the "Hamburg Theater for the Performing Arts".
The town of Hamburg is trying to declare that Shotgun Genie's is a club and not a theater. The owner insists otherwise so this is probably going to end up in court. For the owner, that's expensive and she may lose the ability to have nude dancing. For the city/state, there's the risk that their stupid censorship laws could get declared unconstitutional.
Why now? Apparently, three females came to the club and the door person only carded the first two. Those two were over 21. The third one was only 17, is related to the local sheriff, and ended up dancing nude on stage.
No penalty for the door person who failed to check. No penalty for the minor or her parents. It's ridiculous that it's the club is the only one that suffers. Such is the way it works.
